HORSHAM BEER FESTIVAL RAISES A GLASS TO THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

The generous beer drinkers of  Horsham who attended last month’s Horsham Beer Festival helped to raise just over £800 in support of two  charities, The Royal British Legion and Labradoodle Trust.

Gareth Jones,  Festival organiser and owner of The Beer Essentials in East Street,  said “I am very grateful to everyone who supported the event.  We collected £300 in unused beer tokens and as always The Beer Essentials matched that amount.  The total has been shared between these two worthy causes and the Royal British Legion managed to raise a further  £200 from collections taken over this popular  two day Festival ”

Mariëlle Postill, who is a local Horsham resident  and heads up the Legion’s Membership Planning team added “Cheers  to The Beer Essentials and to the beer festival visitors for giving so generously. For us this was a great opportunity to raise awareness about the work of The Royal British Legion.   We  provide year-round financial, social and emotional support to the millions of people who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces, along with their dependants and we  campaign and lobby on a wide range of issues relating to their care and wellbeing during their time in service and beyond.  There is no doubt that support for our Armed Forces is alive and kicking in Horsham”

Robert Mayfield will always be grateful to the BBH Leisure Centre because of the intrinsic sense of community spirit. It was at the centre that he held his Music for Fun workshops for parents and children in the late 90’s.

During the Cultural Olympiad, the period leading up to the Olympics next year, we regret the potential loss of another community facility in Horsham, one that would have provided an ideal venue during the Games for high profile events linking arts and sport.

The centre has come to the rescue of many families during the intended strike on November 30th with the offer of activities for children. This is the kind of community initiative that all must welcome particularly as Baroness Warsi reckoned, in the Daily Telegraph, 28th November, that women will “bear the brunt” of the walkout.
